The documentary follows a group of loggers working through the winter in Heilongjiang. Their physically punishing labour unfolds amid snow and forest as mechanization and deforestation threaten the survival of this way of life. The film becomes both a portrait of the men and a record of a disappearing mode of production in China’s northeast.
