影片跟随江西一位七十多岁的民间艺人老朱，他靠传统“打春锣”表演谋生，并一直希望自己的技艺得到正式认可。为了能在当地电视台春节晚会上表演短短十几分钟，他多次求助一位享受政府津贴的“春锣大王”，却一次次失望。影片由此把民间艺人的坚持，与决定谁能被看见、被承认的体制形成对照。
The film follows Lao Zhu, a folk performer in his seventies who makes a living performing the traditional ‘spring gong’ in Jiangxi. Hoping to gain recognition, he repeatedly approaches an officially supported master of the form for help getting a short performance on the local television Spring Festival gala, but is disappointed again and again. The documentary contrasts an unaffiliated folk artist’s persistence with the institutional system that decides who is seen and recognized.
