At a literary festival in Jia Zhangke’s hometown of Fenyang, writers Jia Pingwa, Yu Hua and Liang Hong reflect on childhood, villages, literature and the enormous social changes they have witnessed since 1949. Organized in chapters, their memories connect personal experience with the transformation of rural and small-town China across several generations.
