An elderly coffin maker in rural Gansu worries that the new policy of cremation will prevent him from receiving the traditional burial he desires. He asks his children to bury him beneath a tree after death, while his grandson tries to help him fulfill that wish. The film becomes a tender reflection on ageing, custom and the changing rituals of death in rural China.
