Fourteen-year-old Honggui has lived with her aunt and uncle in rural Hunan since her parents left for the city to work. Feeling unwanted and isolated, she endures poverty, gender prejudice and sexual abuse while receiving little protection from the adults around her. The film quietly reveals how migration, family hierarchy and entrenched sexism can leave rural girls profoundly vulnerable.
