Lei Lei begins with tape-recorded interviews his mother made in the early 2000s about her experiences during the Cultural Revolution and later family life. Combining these voices with family photographs, collage, animation and staged imagery, he reconstructs a fragmented maternal memory and explores how private family history can carry the traces of larger political trauma.
