As Chengdu’s state-owned Factory 420 is demolished to make way for a luxury housing complex called 24 City, three generations recount lives shaped by the factory and China’s transition from planned economy to market society. Five real workers’ testimonies flow alongside fictional monologues performed by actors, deliberately blending documentary memory and imagination to portray half a century of social change.
