Against Shenzhen’s skyscrapers, shopping malls and factories, the documentary follows young migrant workers through assembly-line labour, crowded urban spaces and the rural homes from which they have become estranged. Their attempts to find pleasure, relationships and a future reveal the losses and dislocations behind China’s manufacturing boom.
