Four stories of violence unfold across contemporary China: a miner rebels against corruption in his village, a migrant worker discovers the power of a gun, a sauna receptionist resists sexual violence, and a young factory worker drifts between precarious jobs. Inspired by real events, the film links individual eruptions of violence to widening inequality, exploitation and social dislocation.
