两个成长环境完全不同的孩子面对着相似的缺席。林生住在湖南农村，与父亲和弟弟们生活，母亲外出打工；心愿则在北京昂贵的寄宿学校读书，母亲长期在海外工作。父母都认为自己是在为孩子未来牺牲，但孩子感受到的却是被抛下，并且很难说出自己真正需要什么。
Two children from very different social worlds confront a similar absence. Linsheng lives in rural Hunan with his father and younger brothers after his mother leaves for work, while Xinyuan attends an expensive boarding school in Beijing while her mother works abroad. Both parents believe they are sacrificing for their children’s future, yet the children experience their choices as abandonment and struggle to express what they need.
