Farmer and former prisoner Duan Peidong spent years researching the history of Kuomintang resistance against Japan around Tengchong, eventually writing a large manuscript that challenged simplified official narratives. Seventeen years after first filming him, Wang Yunlong returns to find that fame and political recognition have changed the once stubborn truth-seeker into a self-promoting local celebrity, raising questions about how power reshapes memory and sincerity.
