山西一个贫困村庄里的和尚发现破旧寺庙中的佛像已经坍塌。为了在节日前修复佛像，他四处向官员、信众和乡民筹钱，却接连遭遇官僚推诿、警察盘剥和欺骗。越来越绝望的筹款过程，也逐渐考验他的道德底线和信仰。
A Buddhist monk in a poor Shanxi village discovers that the statue in his dilapidated temple is collapsing. Determined to repair it before the holiday season, he tries to raise money through local officials, alms and donations, only to encounter bureaucracy, police extortion and deception. His increasingly desperate efforts gradually test both his ethics and his faith.
