Wei Tie’s first fiction short is rooted in his hometown of Huangshi and centres on an ordinary local police officer. Rather than treating the policeman as a heroic type, the film uses an everyday story to express the director’s attachment to his hometown and his early interest in the resilience, frustrations and emotional lives of ordinary people.
