Jiayi is a left-behind child whose parents work away from home for most of the year. Short reunions and repeated separations shape her childhood: she travels with her grandfather to visit her parents, cries when leaving them, and then returns to school, play and caring for her younger brother. The film observes how children learn to absorb absence into everyday life.
